 Attributing Images

Kia ora, In Te Ngahere we’ve been learning how to attribute images. Attributing images is where you take specific images that have licenses that you have to use in your work to be able to use that photo. Something new I learned about attributing images is  how hard it is sometimes to find the license. In the future this can help me with my work if I find a good photo that I can use for my work I will know to attribute it so I don’t get sued for plagiarism. The hardest thing about this task is having to find where all  the links are.

Do you know how to attribute images?

 Anonymous Information

Kia ora bloggers,

In class we have been learning about scams and phishing. This week for cybersmart we were learning about scamming and phishing and the challenge we were doing was to identify a message to see if it’s legit or fake.  So we got a slide and it had photos of emails and we had to find out if they were legit or fake, I can tell if something is real or fake by seeing if it needs to take personal information and if it’s secure and also  we are not supposed to download software to protect ourselves from viruses because the school will take care of it. To keep myself safe from scammers I will only use sites appropriate to what I am doing and sites that are safe for me to use. When we started this I found it hard at first to tell which websites and emails are real or fake because I didn’t know much about phishing and scamming before this.

Have you ever been scammed?

 The Movie Masters

Kia ora, in Te Ngahere we have started movie making. The first thing we had to learn was 4 different types of  shots known as the establishing shot(which will show you where the scene will be taken), long shot which shows a little bit more of the situation, medium shot which gives you detail of the subject and finally the close up which shows you the character  object and what happens. Before we start  making our movies we had to create a mini video using the 4 shots shown above. The 4 shot movie that my group made was about a boy who kicks a ball at another boys head. I think my group did a good job because it included all the shots, was good quality and was quite funny but maybe next time we could keep the camera still. I think this could help me for making movies in the future because I could use these shots in my movie.

Have you created a movie?

below are a series of photos from the four shot movie I created.

  Lights, Camera, Marble

Kia Ora, If you don’t know me my name is Boston and I’m a year 7 student who attends Paihia School. On the last day of term 2 Te Ngahere did a rerun of the great marble challenge ( the great marble challenge is where we have to create a ramp for a marble to roll down and if you get the most points you get a prize) where we could either adjust or remake our ramps from last time, my groups ramp was remade because our last one was unstable. I think this was hard because we had  2-3 days to re-create our ramps, gladly the next ramp we made was really  good, but when we finished that I found making the instructions easy.

 A Good Sponge.

Kia ora yesterday(01/06/21) the year 7’s made apple sponge at tech. Making the sponge looked complicated but in reality it was really easy. So the first step to making the sponge was peeling and cutting the apple then putting the apples in a pot with ⅓ of a cup of water, next put the pot on the element at high and wait. While you’re waiting for the apples to cook you can make the sponge by putting 4 tablespoons of butter, wait for half of the butter to melt and then put 4 tablespoon of flour, half of ¾ of baking soda in and mix till white but don’t over mix. When white put in vanilla essence then an egg and mix the other half of ¾ of baking soda in the bowl. The mixture should look like paste. When done put the cooked apples in a glass bowl and dribble mixture over the top and put in oven at 200 degrees and wait till cooked. When we were making this I found it difficult mixing the batter without stopping for ages, I found it easy cooking the apples because all I did was peeled, cut and boiled them and it tasted amazing.

 How Smart.

Yesterday(25/05/21) we did a task called smart relationships and we did this so we are safe online with what we’re doing and who we are talking to. This is a very important task because it could help with things like social media and I just want children like me to be safe on social media. This will help me in the future because I now know to change my social media status to private so only my friends can see it and try and play with people that I know and not people that are strangers. When we were doing this I found it hard to figure out the main points of the video we watched, also I found it not too hard to remember what I was supposed to write.

Do you have your social media on private?

 The Amazing Bake

In Te Ngahere the year 7s were doing cooking at tech again but this time we made a potato bake. The potato bake we made had a lot of ingredients like potato obviously, salt, bacon, veggies and cheese sauce. The first thing to do when you're making potato bake is boil the potatoes in water with salt then cut up your veggies and meat. When the potatoes are done put them in a big bowl and hack at them with a knife, I think when we made our potatoes they were 1 of the best because they were soft all throughout the potato. After that is done you will have to make the cheese sauce but I figured out that was not to hard, so all you have to do is put butter in a pot and wait for it to melt and then add 4 tablespoons of white flour into it, when that is done you have to mix it and put in 1 and a half cups of milk slowly then it will start to thicken so you would have to mix it continuously until thick then add cheese and do the same thing again and after 1 to 5 mins your cheese sauce will be done. Then put the cheese sauce on the potatoes and that’s a potato bake.  What I found hard this time was not over cooking the potatoes. But I found cutting the veggies a lot easier than cooking the potatoes.

Have you cooked potato bake before?

 My Google Fish.

In class we have been making sea creatures on Google drawing to explore what other tools were on Google drawing that we could use in the future, I think these newly explored tools can help me in the future with things like DLOs(digital learning objects) and animations.

While we were doing this I made a jellyfish, dory, nemo and a goldfish with some seaweed on the side. When I made this I thought I made my fish very well by making different variants of fish but I think next time I maybe able to finish my drawing a little bit faster by doing it at home for an extra 5 minutes but besides that I found this task very entertaining and fun.

What‘s your favorite fish?

What’s The Time?
Today(12/05/21) in class we did another task master but this one was about being a human timer but
first here are the rules, rule 1: sit in teams of 3 and number yourselves 1,2 and 3, rule 2: you cannot
communicate with your group. So here’s what you have to do to play, the person marked as number
1 will stand when they think it has been 1 minute, the person marked as number 2 will get on their
knees when they think it has been 90 seconds and the person numbered 3 had to clap continuously
when they think it had been 2 minutes.  We also did this task to see how well we can trust ourselves.
What I thought I did well was timing myself but I thought that I could have trusted myself a little bit
more.

What’s the most you’ve counted to?

 The Italian Pizza

Yesterday(04/05/21) at technology(in Moerewa) for the first time me and the other year 7’s did cooking.  At tech with Whaea Dot(cooking teacher) we made homemade pizza and a homemade pizza base using oregano, yeast, oil, sugar, white flour, milk powder to make the bread softer and water. First we put sugar, yeast and water in a big metal bowl swirled it and put it in a warmer at the bottom of an oven. Once that was done we went out to play on the park but when we came in we got to use knives to cut lots of vegetables and meat such as tomatoes, onion, mushrooms, garlic, ham, capsicum and some of us even put spinach in our pizzas. Then our bread base was nearly complete so we pulled them out of the warmer and put oil in it, we also new that it was almost ready because it smelt a little like alcohol. Then we mixed it with some flour, milk powder and a bit of salt and put it back in the warmer with a cloth over it. Next we had to clean while the bread dough was rising so we washed our dishes and wiped our areas till they were spotless. When the dishes and benches were clean we pulled out the dough then needed it into a circle pizza shape then put our toppings on the pizza base then put it in the oven. When it was cooked we pulled it out of the oven and had a taste it was delicious. When we were making the pizzas I thought it was hard making all the measurements but everything else I found easy like cutting and kneading the dough.

 Can You Follow Directions?

Kia ora today(03/05/21) we are back in class doing a reading test that our teacher Whaea Becks gave us and this test was about following directions. We did this exercise to show ourselves how bad we are at reading things carefully and I think the teachers were trying to teach us to follow directions properly. This test was thought to be easy but it was the opposite because we didn’t do what the first direction told us, instead we went through and read the direction at the same time as we wrote it. The first question was read every question carefully before doing anything but I didn’t really understand that and thought it meant read the question then write what it says right after that. The second question was put your name in the upper right hand-corner of the paper, I thought that was an easy direction but after that I started to write more answers and failed because we were only supposed to do 3 directions out of the 23. The last direction said now that you have finished reading  everything carefully  do only direction 1 and 2 then flip the paper and quietly draw on the back. I thought it was hard trying to read some of the directions properly, but I found it easy writing everything down.

How well can you follow directions?

 My Perfect Education.

In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to pronounce Maori properly on a site called education perfect. Education perfect is a site where you can learn multiple subjects like algebra, history and languages. We had to do language so we could learn how to pronounce the Maori language. We were learning how to say things like place names,te arapu Maori(alphabet in Maori), greetings and things like that. What I thought I did well was being able to listen and see if I was saying the words correctly, but maybe next time I can work on slowing down and taking my time to say words with macrons like Māori.

Have you ever heard of education perfect?

Surfing A Smart Wave.

Yesterday in Te Ngahere  we were doing something called smart surfing, smart surfing is how we learnt to keyword search. Don’t worry I’ll tell you what a keyword search is. A  keyword search is when you search something in Google by using keywords, also you’re not supposed to write words like how, what, do, did, or is . We found that typing keywords alone is better than writing the whole sentence because if you’re writing a question like what does a cat eat it will show up with a lot of links that have the word what multiple times in the text. What I found hard from this piece of work was having to find what were the keywords but beside that everything else wasn’t to hard.

 What’s The Point

In Te Ngahere I have been learning how to use place value to add decimals to 2 places.  The easiest way for me to add 2 decimals together is pulling the number behind the decimal point(which is the tenths column) away from the whole number in both of the numbers then add them together separately. I think this is the easiest way for me to add using decimals any number over 0.9 is a whole number and adding numbers like 0.4 + 0.9 is easy  because I know how to do that, my teacher showed me how to use this strategy. I found it hard trying to do this at first because I just learnt how to do this yesterday (29/03/21) but once I got home my mom showed me an easier way to find the answers for addition decimals.

Do you know how to solve any decimal equations? Here’s a photo of my work---->

A Successful Task

 A Successful Task

In Te Ngahere we’ve been doing something in our groups called taskmaster and the task we were doing was called copy the picture. where there is 1 drawer and 2 runners we’ve done this twice since we did this taskmaster activity(taskmaster is a show people are on to do specific tasks). Here are the rules 1. The drawer can not move from their seat, 2. You can switch runners but only 1 person can be running at a time, 3. All team members not drawing must run at least once, 4. Runners can not touch the paper. In my group Angus, me and Charlize. I was the drawer while Charlize and angus were the runners they had to walk outside and try memorize what was on the teachers paper  and come tell me where it was exactly without pointing or touching the paper. What was hard the first time I did this was trying to tell Angus where the picture went because that time I was a runner. What I think worked well was how we collaborated well and also it was really challenging not running inside. But the second time was easier because we got more done than the last time and it also changed a little bit because we had another person in our group that wasn’t here last time just the hard thing about the second time was I got yelled at a lot.

Have you seen the programme taskmaster?

Here is a photo of the picture I drew and the picture my team member drew----->

 My Food Web

In Te Ngahere we’ve been learning about food webs. A food web is a diagram that shows you how the predators get their energy. First we had to learn what the arrows mean and we learnt that the way the arrows blunt side is facing is the organism being eaten so that means the organism/predator with the point facing to it is the thing eating the other creature, here’s another way to put it, the energy from the animal which they ate is transferred to the predator of that animal. Also we had to find which birds ate the berries and I found out rats eat everything on the web except the kowhai berries. Here are some reasons why my food web is different to Whaea Becks one example 1 she has the coloured coded arrows, example 2 mine is very messy    example 3 she’s finished unlike me. This was really hard just trying to figure out which animal ate what, but the easy thing was figuring out which way the arrow pointed.

Did this help you in any way? Here’s a photo of my teachers food web and mine--->

The Water Surge

Last friday my family went to Oromahoe because there was a surge in the water that everyone thought was a Tsunami. When the Tsunami sirens went off we just got to school so my Mum let us come home with her. We picked up my Dad, his dog and my grandmother. As we rushed to Oromahoe my Dad stopped at the R&S Auto Service Repair shop just out of Haruru to get my cousin. When we got to Oromahoe we were safe, but we were just as scared thinking about what could have happened that day. So then for the rest of that day we stayed in Oromahoe playing video games, tag and running around for no exact reason. when we went back home we realised that there was no damage to the house or not even a Tsunami.

What would you do if there was a Tsunami near you?

 Amazing Things About Mutualism.

In Te Ngahere we’ve been learning about mutualism and how birds and trees have a  mutualistic relationship. Birds and trees both benefit from their relationship and I’m going to tell you how. The birds help the trees by eating the fruit off the tree but also spreading the pollen through the flowers so they can bloom and make berries, when the birds eat the fruit they eat the seeds too and as their flying away from that tree the bird poops the seed out, also the tree grows and the birds poop helps fertilize the tree so it can grow faster, what I found hardest during this lesson to me was learning what the word mutualism means, but what I found easy was finding the facts in the text I was reading. Here are some of those facts about mutualism.

Did this teach you anything  about mutualism? Here is a photo of my synthesizing writing---->
